We have much to be thankful for this season. And amongst them is having you along virtually for the ride.

Thank you for your kind words, your support and your friendship over the years – and particularly over these past couple of trying months.

Wherever the day finds you, we hope it’s full of warmth, love and gratitude.

Happy Thanksgiving from our home to yours!

Happy everything to you too. And thanks for taking us along for the ride since this is the closest I’m willing to get to a boat.

Happy Holidays to you all. You’re so much more interesting and exciting than any so called ”reality TV” program. Looking forward to virtually strap hanging the rest of the way around the loop. Wishing you smooth seas and deep, unobstructed channels.

    Hey Guys:

Hope your Thanksgiving was a good one and that you both are in good health and spirits. Been following you through many of your RV posts and all of your boat posts. Really enjoy your YouTube videos. Brings back many memories of our boating days.

Considering all that has happened since your unfortunate encounter with that broken-off channel marker, I suggest that when you are back in the water with both screws available, go out and practice single screw/ emergency operations. With a bow thruster, you can easily control your boat during single screw operations.

I was relocating a 40′ Carver for a client and lost the starboard screw due to a shaft coupling failure. I ran the boat from Moorehaven, FL to St Petersburg, FL on a single screw, with no bow thruster. It takes practice, but is totally doable. In your case, after having a diver remove the shaft keg and prop and verified that you had no major underwater damage, you could have run the boat up to Fort Pierce in keeping with your original plan for haulout and refitting. This would have saved you the 8 hour tow up Biscaine Bay and then up the Miami River, and the time on the hard with the great proximity to Miami International. 😉 Keep up the great cruising, videos, circumnavigation and YouTube postings.

My better half (Judy) and I will be in Florida this winter in our motorhome, and we are scheduled in Jacksonville 1/10 to 1/15; Daytona 1/5 a 1/18 and Port St Lucy 1/18 -1/30. Would love to hook up with you guys for lunch or dinner (on us) and an afternoon/evening of swapping stories.

Please let Judy and I know of the possibilities.

Yes, we know could have gotten up to Ft. Pierce on one screw, and we did consider it. We had traveled about 5 miles on one screw before the tow showed up.

However, not knowing the extent of the damage, the tight channels of the ICW half way up there, plus our generator situation complicating things – we weren’t comfortable with the idea.

Since the tow was included with our TowBoat US membership and the yard was ready to take us with a mechanic immediately available (the yard in Ft. Pierce was a DIY, we would have needed to arrange that too) – it was the right decision for us. And we are tackling lot of the refit projects right now.

But this post was just to express thanks and joy for the holiday, not an opening to offer us unsolicited advice.

Thank you, and may you have a very pleasant Thanksgiving. I really enjoy following your blog. I once hoped to do the Great Loop, but events kept us from doing it. I wish you a fantastic trip from now on.
