You Must be Present to Win

Travelogues

Jul 8, 2015 by Cherie Ve Ard 12 Comments

Yesterday we were watching glaciers calving while soaking in a hot tub aboard our return cruise south. Life is tough, I know.

I joked to Chris that I should skip updating on our Alaskan Journey this week and instead put up a short post about being present in your travel experiences.

After all, taking time out to blog and process through all of our amazing photos (not that our photos are any more special than anyone else’s – it’s just really hard to take a bad photo in Alaska) – would mean taking several hours off from experiencing.

A lot of this adventure for me has be rediscovering the magic of being fully present at each location and really and truly inviting serendipity to guide us. As a result, the amazing experiences have been coming in at rapid fire – new friends made, beautiful scenery, aromatic food, seamless transitions and taking it all in.

After two days at sea with no connectivity, we pulled into Haines, AK this morning to find usable signal.  We figured we’d go explore town in the morning and then head back to ship to catch up on various online projects – including updating the travelogue.

As we’re wandering around town, I get a notification that a new post to our blog has gone live – with a title of just ‘X’ and no content.

Bewildered, we pinged our webmaster to see if there’s any signs of a hack into our WordPress install. After some poking around, he found nothing suspicious.

I can only surmise that in the process of checking comments on my smartphone while wandering around, I ‘butt posted’ (ie. unintentionally posted) a blank post.

I’ll take that as a sure sign from serendipity that I was meant to post about being in the moment, enjoying the experience and renigging on my intentions to spend this afternoon blogging.

If you need me.. you can find me in the hot tub. Or not. :)
If you need me.. you can find me in the hot tub. Or not. 🙂

Thank you universe for the confirmation.. and our apologies for all the blank ‘X’ postings that went out to our RSS & email subscribers.

We’ll get back to bringing you up to date on our Alaskan adventure soon enough.

I am happy to hear you are taking some of the time for yourself! This post served as a reminder to myself of how important that really is. It’s hard to turn off the devices and unplug when there is a lot going on and possibly, that is when it is most important. Thanks for the reminder and the hot tub shot… I don’t think you could have paid me to get out. What a view!

It really is so important.. and so difficult, especially for those of us who are attached to our social media and sharing. Nothing like a hot tub with a view to remind us of that. Hope you guys are getting some much needed downtime yourselves, and so wish we had gotten more time together in Alaska.

I like the Alaskan pics. Hope to be up there in Summer 2016 to soak up my own Alaskan vibe. I am a newbie trying to absorb all the advice the two of you have been putting out there. Thank you and keep the cold weather updates/advice coming.

“X” marks the spot so we’ll be here when you get back from Being.

Happy you are having such a great time! I will confess to missing the tech stuff but I am still sorting through some old posts – not that I expect it to cross your minds – lol.

Once we get back, there will be plenty of tech posts coming up 🙂 It’s been really nice to take a break in the meantime.

That’s funny! Yes…a sure sign that you both should just stay in the moment and enjoy what’s left of your great vacation. We’ll all survive out here without you for a little while. 🙂
