Sunsets – One of the Threads that Weaves our Nomadic Fabric

Photos Travelogues

There. I said it. I love sunsets.

As the earth spins around its axis, the sun disappears from site. Magical lighting awakens the senses that lead us into nightfall. The skies dance with color, every moment the clouds paint a new scene on the aerial canvas before us.

In a nomadic lifestyle, sunsets are both our constant beacon and a reminder of the unpredictability of our wandering.

Every night a different location, a different time, a different set of friends to share it with. Sometimes the sun sets behind a mountain, across a valley, over a lake, reflecting a bayou, dancing on a desert or splashing into the ocean.

No matter where we are, every night on the road – we take a moment to soak in the significance. It’s that time of day that we’re always still, bridging the locations and experiences we’ve had from one day into the next.

DSC02356

That moment that transitions the daylight into to darkness. A chance to reflect upon the day we’re wrapping up – did we live it to the fullest? Did we impact change in someone’s life? What did we accomplish? Did we live from an abundant mindset? What joy will we bring into tomorrow?

I hear sunrises are equally as amazing. Just kinda in reverse. Maybe one day we’ll capture one..  if we stay up late enough.

I thought I saw your bus off of SR 95 south of Quartzsite a few days ago. We were parked less than 1/2 a mile from you off of La Paz Valley road at the Newmar gathering.

The desert provided us lots of nice sunsets as well.

Nope.. wasn’t us. We were parked north of town off Plomosa Rd. Lots of vintage buses in the desert, including a whole GM bus gathering at the RV park right next to the I-10 overpass.

If we can leave the shades open, we might catch a glimpse of sunrise from bed.. then it’s right back to sleepy time. Then again, we don’t typically go to bed until 2 or 3am.

Beautiful photos with a nice philosophocal post to accompany it. Well done, Cherie.

I also love sunsets, but am a great sunrise lover too. I’ll even get up at oh-dark:30 to be at the location of a known great sunrise sight. Worth the price! 🙂

Hot coffe with a sunrise: priceless way to start the day.
Cold beverages at sunset: priceless way to end the day.
Both are even better with loved ones and/or friends.

Love the little poem 🙂 Thank you.

We do try to leave the shades open when we can to enjoy a sunrise from bed.

The sunsets here in Quartzsite looking at Dime Rock can be awesome. Settled in to see many of them. Thoughtful posting you wrote.

Looking forward to seeing you guys again at the RVillage meet up (or before if we bump into ya!). Dome Rock looks like a great area, we need to check it out.

Sunsets are my favorite thing to photograph. I have also captured some amazing sunrises in the desert. My favorite thing about Arizona in the sky at the beginning and end of the day.

The desert skies certainly are perfect canvases for sun colors. We do try to leave the shades open when we can so we can catch a sunrise from bed.

It’s more difficult for me to enjoy a sunrise with a glass of wine so I’m partial to sunsets and the whole getting up in the morning when it’s dark doesn’t work for me. Today I’m in Northern Calif and we will not see the sun set as we are high fogged in. Enjoy a desert sunset for all of us in the fog.

A glass of wine certainly helps the enjoyment of sunset!

We do catch a peak of a sunrise from time to time if we’re parked somewhere we can leave the window shades open 🙂 Then it’s right back to snooze-land for a few more hours.

Desert sunsets have their own special magic, for sure! Glad the pics helped.
