Travelogues Work Life

Feb 27, 2014 by Cherie Ve Ard 26 Comments

Space. Glorious awesome space.

After the Tin Can Tourist Convention cleared out on Sunday, Chris and I were walking around the campground late at night.

It was so peaceful. Quiet. We had the entire campground to ourselves. No one but the friendly workampers around. Acres of tree’d bliss all ours.

And solid LTE on all our devices.

Space.... no neighbors beside us!
Space…. no neighbors beside us!

We realized that we had no neighbors to disturb with our late night shenanigans. We could talk in a normal voice while we take our 2am strolls around the campground – often walking the cat.

Why was it we were leaving in the morning again?

We had snagged reservations beginning Monday at Hillsborough State Park just south of Zephyrhills, for a spot right across from the kayak launch. We enjoyed the park very much on our stay last year, and were looking forward to returning for our post-Cedar Key recharging alone time.

But we now realized that our “secret project” would be consuming much more of our time this week than we had anticipated when we made the reservation. And we already knew from Reserve America that we had snagged one of the last spots, and that the entire state park would be full up during our stay.

Plus – the Tin Can Tourists had negotiated an attractive $20/night rate for attendees to extend their stay here, cheaper than our state park rate – not to mention the fuel saved on repositioning.

Space... no neighbors... anywhere!
Space… no neighbors… anywhere!

Having a beautiful chill place with no distractions, no neighbors, great connectivity and easily accessible walks and hiking trails – was just what we needed.

Just because we have a reservation, doesn’t mean we have to keep it…

We logged onto ReserveAmerica, and clicked the cancel button on our reservation authorizing the refund minus a trivial cancellation fee.  And voila, plans changed and this perfect spot was ours for the week.

Our decision was rewarded when we went to pay for our extension at Sertoma Youth Ranch, and the workamper gave us an even cheaper daily rate for extending.

So, thus – we’ve been parked exactly where we pulled in last Thursday. Enjoying more solitude than we’ve experienced in many many months.

It’s absolutely the perfect spot to hyper focus on this project.

Which by the way… we’re almost ready to end the suspense and tell you all about it!  We’re so excited.

No, beyond excited.

Space...Watch it!
Space…Watch it!

Watch this Space…  awesome stuff coming real soon!

Heh – at Hillsborough right now – we’d have missed you by days it looks like. We just bought a pair of used Sea Eagle kayaks and have enjoyed our time on the river already.

This looks heavenly! We have been out of touch (without cell phone coverage & internet connectivity) for a week, and I must admit to feeling a bit liberated. Although we had neighbors in our campground, it was spacious and so quiet, just what is needed to recharge the batteries.

Sometimes getting away from contact is just what is needed! Hopefully we’ll be able to escape for a bit once this project gets out there 😉

So glad you had some much welcomed recharge time, and welcome back to the inter webs.

Love the fact that you just change your plans and do what you want. 9 days and we will be on the road, although our first few weeks are pretty scripted, I am looking forward to traveling with no concrete plans. Enough with the suspense already! Tell us what you have been working on!

Good for you for only pre-planning a few weeks of your new adventure! You’re way ahead of me when we first hit the road – I was such a nervous wreck without my plans!

Best wishes on the final countdown.. exciting!!

LOVE that gorgeous spot! You are very smart for staying!!
I’m just starting to look for you every day (Ed has been for awhile…) so will not be sad if you are not on w/a NEW blog each day….i’ll know you are contentedly ‘hunkered down’ and working on something magnificent…?!
We’re still in Okeechobee, but as i type this, Ed is perusing the Atlas, to choose our new spot. We’ll be pulling out Sunday a.m….for where? I dunno! I just do 3- no, 2 – things as far as The Bussin’ goes: 1) Get In 2) Sit Down and….oh, yeah. The third rule is shut up, but i don’t do THAT one! 🙂
Looking forward to your next blurb!
Pet the kitty for us, and take GOOD care !!
    🙂 from here,
    Stevi

Oh gosh.. a new blog post each day? Whew. Don’t think we could keep up with that. We’re doing good to average 2 a week 😀

Hope your next adventure is amazing, and who knows where we’ll find each other again.

(And thanks again for our amazing gord… everyone who comes in the bus drools over it!)

        I hear ya!
I do a ‘weekly’ news letter just to keep the kids and a few pals updated…and the quotes around weekly are very, VERY loose! I try…know how vastly important to the physical and emotional well-being of all the N4-ers it is for them to know our every move…but sometimes life gets in the way…WHAT!? A HANGNAIL???? >; )
And don’t worry about the gourd, i used anti-drool lacquer on it! 🙂
        See ya somewhere! stevi

I admire your youth & freedom. I will be fulltime with wife & son in June thanks to retirement : ). volunteering through volunteer.gov and boon-docking to offset other expenses. I hope to utilize much of the technical advice your blog provides. Thank you for what you do.

I have to say that you take some of the most beautiful pictures of your experiences! I love reading your posts about all things tech as well as your personal times. HUGE fan here!

I have a question that I would like to get your opinion on if you wouldn’t mind. I am considering purchasing an older coach as I have not been impressed with the quality of construction in the newer class A rvs. The issue I am facing is that I will be working in my coach and will need a desk. I can have a desk built in the older coach that I am considering similar to your set up, but like yours, I won’t have the extra space that a slide out gives. I wondered if you have found it difficult not having slide outs where you have your “office” set up?

    Thanks

      Awww… thank you!

While there are times I wish we could magically expand our front area by a couple feet (usually when we’re entertaining friends), most of the time it’s perfectly abundant for us. We specifically wanted something without slides, mostly for the reduction of potential complications, and to keep small and flexible.

Keep in mind, we were moving up from a 17′ fiberglass egg trailer. So our bus is huge in comparison as is 🙂

The beauty of our lifestyle is being able to mix it up. It was nice to be sans-neighbors for a few days after the tight quarters of Cedar Key. Miss you guys, and head pats to Pipa!

    Your such a tease!
Looks like a nice spot your at. What’s that under your bus? Oh! that’s what the ground looks like when it’s not snowing. I haven’t seen anything but white here where we live (with some spots of yellow from my dog) since the beginning of Dec. and we’re supposed to get several big storms this coming week…UGH. This is the last year for us in this cold! Hope to meet up with you two someday! Thanks for the nice pics. of the TCT too!

What a winter, huh? Definitely incentive to kick it into gear and head south! As chilly as our winter has been here in Florida, we don’t envy our northern friends one bit. Keep warm, and hope spring gets there soon!
