Something Magical about Cedar Key

Travelogues Vintage Bus (June 2011 - present)

Jan 9, 2014 by Cherie Ve Ard 32 Comments

Three years in a row Cedar Key has drawn us in. And each time for a longer spell. There’s just something magical about it.

Is it the sunsets?

IMG_0746

Delightful waterfront access and docks.
Cedar Key Sunsets
These docks are now gone thanks to the hurricane.

Is it the amazing community of fellow nomads that *always* seems to assemble here with us?

And this is only *some* of the fellow nomads who joined us here.
And this is only *some* of the fellow nomads who joined us here.
Social, social, social!
Our dear friend Ann & Elliott

Is it the quirky little town that charms our socks off?

Or is that every time we come to Cedar Key, despite our best intentions of it being a peaceful and re-grounding reset, there are major things afoot in our lives?

Fortunately, this year – that major thing is abundantly positive.

IMG_0725

Our time has been absolutely consumed these past weeks with amazing community, an amazing location and an amazing project we’re so super proud to be part of.

We’re so excited about this project, that we’re just bursting at the seams to tell you about.

But not yet.

  Great things are coming.

So glad 2014 is shaping up to be good for you, I have been catching up on your posts since September. (That is a lot of content!) So I can see that you have had some set backs and major losses. Hope you rock 2014!

Could not respond on FB. IRV2 took our blog off my signature because my blog is “obviously commercial.” No ads, no donate button but I do have a link on one of my pages to another website that advertises singing CDs. They would not discuss it at all.

Was looking you up because we’re having challenges connecting our alfa antenna/blue box router combo to the campground wi-fi at . . . yes, really, Cedar Key RV Resort! Looks as though y’all (I’ve been down here too long from Illnois) are parked on the island by some water, though, not up here with us mainlanders. The rain’s too hard right now, but we would have liked to stand you to a glass of something. Stay dry!!

I’m hoping to get to Cedar Key this year. Because I can’t seem to make any set plans it’s hard to say when that might be or if there’ll be any room to camp. This will be my first RV trip to Florida and I hear it’s pretty darn popular in the Winter. All those folks from way up North heading to the beaches and great Florida weather. I’m just lazing around the whole Continent and have lots of time to do it. I just don’t want to head north into the Carolinas until at least mid March. In Louisiana now.

The campgrounds are pretty full, but somehow folks are able to snag spots for a couple nights here and there last minute.

We’re just down the road from you at Cedar Key RV Resort. Cedar Key is a beautiful little town. Ina and I enjoyed the clam chowder today at Tony’s. We are leaving in a few days for the Three Flags park at Wildwood. We’ll do some fishing on Sunday. Perhaps next time I’ll make reservations at the correct park. Been following your travels for a while. Also I’m enjoying the blog.

Oh gosh.. the fudge, I totally need to make time to snag some. I get so distracted by the soft serve ice cream machine to fill my sweet tooth cravings 😉

Wow, I don’t even remember seeing the soft serve ice cream machine…think I had blinders on and only saw the white chocolate maraschino cherry fudge…
Thank you Cherie for all your fun posts. Sitting in three feet of snow is much easier to tolerate when thinking of cedar key and your tales from the bus.

I don’t think I have ever commented here before, but I have bought your books and read your’alls blog for years. I just have to tell you how inspirational you folks are to me.

I sold my house last year, downsized like crazy, and moved to the left coast near family, but ultimately am planning some form of off-grid mobile life style. A big bus like yours intimidates me, but maybe a little bus?

Anyway, here’s to wishing ya’ll a great new year!!!
PS – I love your photos!
