A Joyous 2014 Arrival!

Travelogues Vintage Bus (June 2011 - present)

Jan 2, 2014 by Cherie Ve Ard 7 Comments

Hoping that each and everyone of you had a bright start to 2014 – we sure are glad to usher it in ourselves, and it’s off to a great start!

Holidays with the family!
Holidays with the family!

We arrived on the 20th to Cedar Key, got a bit settled in and then immediately took off about 2 hours south of here to spend Christmas with Chris’ parent. My mom also drove over from Melbourne to join up. Cedar Key makes a great winter base camp for us with family close enough for visits.

When we returned, we had bicycles delivered from Walmart for just $69/each. We’re not quite ready to invest in what we ultimately want – nice full sized folding bikes that we can keep in one of our bays (which will also require some shuffling of stuff around). So this will be a great solution for our 2-month stay here to have transportation around town. We’ll just donate or sell them closer to our departure.

My mom then followed us up to Cedar Key to join in with the RVer fun for New Years!

There’s been a variety of activities put together within our little NuRVer group:

Sunset Mango Mojito Party (Thanks Eric & Jeanette!)

Side note – See that amazing white hanging glowing light in many of our night shots above? Wanting some better outdoor lighting options, I found the Ivation LED Dimmable USB-recharable Lantern on Amazon and asked Santa for one.

We absolutely love this thing – it’s the perfect high tech camping lantern and creates a beautiful glowing light!  It’s definitely been added to our recommended Mobile Gear!

It’s already been an amazing time here in Cedar Key with our community of fellow RVers, and it’s just beginning!

It’s quite the group that has found their way here – both folks who let us know they were joining up with us, and quite a collection of folks who made their way here on their own.  It’s wonderful to be part of a community for a while. We just have to learn to pace ourselves so we can keep up with it all!

One last thing… this Saturday afternoon, we’ll be hosting our next video chat from Cedar Key with a live studio audience!

Live Video Chat – Saturday, Jan 4 – 3pm EST

Topic: Lithium Ion Batteries for RVs (2.5 Year Update)

IMG_2340We built and installed our own lithium ion battery system for our vintage bus back in the summer of 2011. (For full details: http://www.technomadia.com/lithium)

Join us and our live studio audience here in Cedar Key for a live video webcast where we’ll overview LFP for RV house systems and update on the status of our our bank (we’re running a full array of capacity tests this week in preparation).

We’ll have a Q&A afterwards – first focused on LFP, then a general one if there’s time.

At the appointed time (3pm EST / noon PST on Saturday), direct your browser to: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/technomadia

      Gina –

I think the recipe worked like this…

      1) Get gummy worms.
      2) Drown them in vodka for 2-5 days.
      3) The worms get bigger.
      4) Eat.
      5) Yummm!
      6) Repeat.
      7) Buzzzz!

      – Chris

I believe Elliott used cherry vodka, however 🙂

    Hi Cherie and Chris,

My husband Terry and I know Nina and Paul and were excited when you all connected in OR, as they spoke so highly of the two of you. We are going to be in Cedar Key beginning Jan 13th for a week and would love to meet the two of you if you have the time.

How fantastic! Where are you guys staying? We’re at Sunset Isles, with a fairly large group. If you’re on Facebook, you’re welcome to join our little planning place for gatherings at http://www.facebook.com/groups/cedarkey2014 .

Or if you’re in the park, come on over and say hi (well, not in the mornings, we’re totally not morning people ;)).

So looking forward to this new year. Hopefully this will be our year. We spent a week in St. Augustine and left just before Christmas. Unlike CK it’s face space and lots to do and see. Now we are back in frozen Georgia and hating it.
Love reading your post and hearing about your travels. Thanks for all the different information on a verity of topics. Hope Chris got those bikes assembled 🙂
Enjoy Cedar Key and your time there.
