Cedar Key – Here we Come!

In the Media Travel Plans

Oct 29, 2013 by Cherie Ve Ard 14 Comments

Once we get through the storage unit purge this week, we’ll be starting a cross country repositioning with a destination of Cedar Key, Florida by Christmas!

Our spot is waiting for us…

Yup, we’re returning to our waterfront spot in that chill place of gorgeous sunsets.

And yes, yet again, there’ll be a bit of a convergence of fellow full timing RVing friends joining us at Sunset Isles RV Park. If you’re heading that way, let us know and we’ll get you connected in with the rest of the group.

If you’re not joining up with us there? Well, prepare to be tortured with more sunset photos.

Ugh. 2800 miles ahead of us.
Ugh. Why are there so many miles between here and there?!?

I must admit, I’m not looking forward to covering nearly 2800 miles over the next 7 weeks. It feels like we just got to the west coast and our time here has been way too short.

While the drive doesn’t excite me, the stops along the way and destination do.

We’ll stop in Desert Hot Springs for some much needed relaxation, soaking and reconnection with friends. The past couple of weeks have been chaotic as Chris has shed so many memories so quickly. He’s exhausted and I’m frankly going a bit stir crazy as there’s not much I can help with.

And then we’ll stop for a couple weeks in Austin for Thanksgiving with family. And then on to Cedar Key by December 20, which will be our winter base camp for the holidays and visiting family. Which is why we’re heading back east – family. It’s ever so important to us this year as we approach our first holiday season without my dad.

Pics of sunsets from our Cedar Key visit last year keep me motivated..
Ahhh…. mazing.

Screen Shot 2013-10-28 at 7.16.47 PMI’m so glad I made a calendar out of our sunset photos from last year.  I keep a RV-sized copy on the wall in front of my desk, so I’m constantly reminded of those beautiful sunsets throughout the year.

Our 2014 Cedar Key Sunset Calendar is now available. Order by 10/31 and save 30% with code ‘2014CALENDAR’.

If you’re looking for some road inspiration or just pretty sunset pictures, order a copy – they also make great holiday gifts!

And speaking of Cedar Key Sunsets and calendars, we’re honored that the Levy County Visitor’s Bureau asked if they could use our kayaking at sunset photo as their entry into Paddling.Nets’s 2014 calendar!  We’re November! How cool is that?

We just had a great day at Cedar Key… the sunsets are still there waiting for you! You can check for yourself here in our blog: http://jazz-bluesflorida.blogspot.com/2013/12/we-went-to-cedar-key-for-some-sun.html
We will be returning for dinner and sunset to see out the current year (before heading back across the state to welcome the new year in with the sunrise at St. Augusting Beach!)
If you are around dock street on the 31st and see us, please stop us and say ‘hi’!
    Safe travels…

Ahhh! We found this place by accident two years and only wish it wasn’t 3,000 miles away. Nobody believes this place til you get there.

That is so true! For years while I lived in Florida I had people tell me I had to go check it out. It wasn’t until some fellow RVing friends were there a couple years ago that we actually did. So glad you got to experience it, and hopefully one day you will again.

Heya! As Chris has poked me about on Twitter, we’re not going to be too far from each other this winter. I’m going to be traveling to Gainesville after Amazon gets over for a volunteer position. I’m not sure yet if I’d be able to stay at Cedar Key on the way there for a couple days (start date at the new gig and potential plans in Texas might not make it possible) but I hope that I can at least drive out on a day off at meet up with you guys at some point while we’re both there. 🙂

That would be so awesome, Becky!! Here’s the group to join on FB where the meetup is converging at, so that you can keep ‘in the know’ of any meetups or events you might like to aim for: https://www.facebook.com/groups/cedarkey2014/

And if you ever want an overnight out there, you’re always welcome to our spare couch.

Thanks for the offer! I sent a request to join the group. I’m looking forward to Florida and for the chance to meet up with you guys and perhaps other NuRVers and see this legendary place I’ve heard so much about.

    Hi Cherie and Chris…
You just warmed me up! Thank you. We had our first frost last night and your picture reminded me of our awesome week at cedar Key last May. How long will you be staying in paradise this time?

Hi Jill.. we have our spot reserved for 2 months. Glad you got to experience it, I’m guessing May is pretty wonderful there too?

I spent a couple of nice times at Cedar Key after big Orlando shows over the years. Really like the slow pace and the sunsets. Jealous that you get to go for an entire winter.

Cedar Key is a fantastic retreat… the sunsets are amazing, but we really appreciate the chill island time vibe the whole place has.
