Ramblings: Tales from Nomads – Voyager 54

Ramblings

Sep 7, 2012 by Cherie Ve Ard 11 Comments

Meet John

John Lamb has been on the road since mid-2010. He’s a solo traveler in his late 50s who funds his adventures by picking up workamping jobs around the country that range from hosting campgrounds to building projects.

Since John hit the road, he’s now on his third RV – it’s a classic Goldilocks story. At first he tried a 42′ fifth wheel with 5 slides.  It was too big.  Then he tried a truck camper. It was too small.  Today he’s settled on the perfect solution for him – a converted stealthy cargo trailer outfitted with solar and wind power.

We met up with John as he was passing through town while we were in St. Louis earlier this summer. Unfortunately, he didn’t have the trailer with him – but he agreed to do an interview to share his story, and sent us some pictures to include. Please excuse all the chirping birds that decided to chime in.

Stay tuned.. more nomads coming soon!

Ramblings: Tales from Nomads is intended to introduce you to some amazing people who are living life on their terms by traveling full time.

In this video series, you’ll be meeting and hearing the stories from a wide range of nomads we’ve met, with one thing in common – they’re not waiting for a traditional retirement to pursue their dreams of perpetual travel.

The entire video series will continue to grow at:  https://www.technomadia.com/ramblings

We’ll continue introducing you to more nomads, aiming to release 1-2 videos a month until we run out of content (which is hopefully never!). Make sure you’re subscribed to our RSS feed to be automatically notified when we post.

Would you like to be featured in this series? Let us know when our paths might be converging and let’s hang out – and we’ll be happy to film you in person too.

Want to be a Nomad too?

Inspired to explore a nomadic path yourself?  We created a series just for you!  Check out our free blog series: No Excuses: Go Nomadic that addresses many of the logistics such as – income sources, affordability, pets, family, mail, healthcare, connectivity, community and more.

We also offer the same series as a ‘pay as you wish’ eBook, for those wanting the convenience and/or tossing us some thank-you bucks (Thank you!).

I watched this whole series of interviews in two sittings, and now I’m going back through them with my husband. I was excited to see someone who has built out a trailer. (More my style.) I was SO excited to hear that he uses wind power! Wished I could have seen his home. But, I understand, it’s his home. Some people want to keep that private.

This is the first time that I’ve watched one of your video series since I started following your blog. I’ll have to go back and listen to the others. I’ve told my husband just recently that I have a dream….(or as I’m calling it – my 5yr plan!) Thanks for sharing your travels and also those that you meet along the way.

John Lamb has a great and interesting story. Who would have thought at his age he can still work and travel at the same time. Wish I can see his trailer.

His is indeed an interesting story! And it is wonderful that us younger folks are able to work & travel at the same time… thus why we love sharing this series!

Yeah, we’re just using a point-n-shoot camera to record the videos, and it’s not the best audio setup for doing outside interviews. Ideally, we prefer interviewing folks inside their home where we can control those things better. Hope you can watch the video at a later time when your A/C is not running, we know that hassle well!
