Meet-Ups and Friends Galore!

In the Media Vintage Bus (June 2011 - present)

May 18, 2012 by Cherie Ve Ard 2 Comments

We have had an awesome week in Austin, and are so thrilled it’s worked out that we could just stay in town.  Aside from getting a lot of work done, we’ve experienced a nice bump in our social and active life.

For one, our friends and fellow nomads Yair & Ayo from Our Take On Freedom are also in town – so we’ve been enjoying our first rendezvous on the road that wasn’t at Burning Man. These two have so much passion and energy for life. They keep getting us out and experiencing things, which is a most excellent break from all the hours we’re putting in right now.

We also got to be the first day of another friend’s next nomadic journey this week – we’re really digging this being part of someone’s first day on the road.

And of course, my brother lives in town – who I count amongst my closest friends, so it’s been incredibly fun to hang out with him.

And then there’s the more organized meet-ups.

$100 Start-Up Meet-Up

Chris Guillebeau presenting at 'The $100 Startup' - Houston, TX

When we saw that Chris Guillebeau’s book launch tour for his new The $100 Startup would be bringing him to (relatively) nearby Houston – it was a no-brainer for us to attend.  So yesterday we took the time to drive down to Houston – which, by the way, it much farther than it seemed on a map. I always forget how huge Texas is, and I grew up here!

Lots of attendees!

It was an *awesome* event.  From the RSVP list, we thought it might be a small gathering, but it became a standing room only event.  Chris introduced us to the crowd as being in the book, and gave us an opportunity to talk about what we do.  While he was autographing books, he encouraged folks to come hit us up.

Before we knew it, we had a line of our own forming. Wow. What a rush to meet so many eager and inspiring people looking to make their entrepreneur dreams come to life!  And of course, we tended to attract those looking to embark on nomadic journeys of their own.

By the time Chris left, we still had conversations going on, so a group of us went out to grab a bite of dinner and continue. It was midnight before we hit the road back to Austin.

Me surrounded by Chrises!

The drive was totally worth it, we had quite the inspiring evening.

(And welcome to anyone who has found us here from last night!)

You’re Invited: Technomadia Happy Hour

Austin, TX: Wednesday, May 23 – 5-8pm

We started getting quite a few requests for meet-ups in Austin, and quickly realized we wouldn’t have enough time to meet everyone and still have time for everything else on our plate.

So we decided since we have this sweet spot in Austin for a while longer, we’d host an open-bus and happy hour.

If you’re in the Austin area – you’re invited to join us next Wednesday evening (May 23) from 5-8pm.

We’ll have snacks and drinks, the bus will be open to tour and Kiki will be available to adore.  And of course, we’d love to meet you!  As there are some other nomads attending as well, there may be an informal Q&A session about technomadic life.

You can get full details and RSVP on our FaceBook Event Page (if you’re anti-FB – that’s cool, just reply here or drop us a note at us@technomadia.com and let us know you plan to stop by.)

Alrighty… that’s all for now.  Back into the work-cave we go!

It’s true–Texas is VAST. So cool to meet you two live and in person. Thanks for making the trip from Austin and for sharing your life’s journey.

Hope it’s not 18 months before Chris writes his next book!

    See ya down the road.
