How Many Differences Can You Spot?

Bus Projects Chapters Vintage Bus (June 2011 - present)

Aug 2, 2011 by Cherie Ve Ard 45 Comments

Before & After - Click for larger version!

42 Days ago we bought our GM 4106 bus and moved in.

We took the photo on the left after a quick clean up. We just took the photo on the right after a lot of renovations we’ve accomplished so far! (And that’s just in this area of the bus!)

How many of the differences can you spot?

(Go ahead… list them out!  Whoever does the best gets a copy of our State Lines eBook or iPhone App!)

We’ll soon have a post up with an updated video tour, and will start detailing all of the work we’ve been doing.

Right now, we’re busily getting everything ready to get in motion in the morning. We’ve selected nearby Flagstaff, AZ as our next destination, which is much higher in elevation and having temperatures much cooler. Plus, turns out we have friends currently staying there we can rendezvous with! We’re looking forward to some time focused on things other than bus projects.

(All guesses are now displayed, and the Answer Key is now posted!)

    In addition to the ones mentioned in other comments:
    1. Cherie’s dress is different.
    2. New storage drawers under couch (or is the camera angle just slightly different, or maybe couch actually slightly pushed back?).
    3. Something hanging from light(?) fixture on far right.
    4. Nice, and different, laptops.
    5. Very different window treatment in kitchen, actually looks like a larger window.
    6. Blinds down on window on right, open on left.
    7. Cat water bowls(?) on the floor under the desk.
    8. Nice work chair.
    9. In addition to new kitchen faucet, it’s actually a different sink.
    10. That large thing against the wall between the sink and stove, what is that?

    That’ll do for now….

    Some panel mounted above the range on the side of the cabinet
    Is it the picture? or is the other pillow on the couch now blue.

    Closed up floor vents
    Spice rack
    Add personal effects behind range

    New flooring, dinette removed and replaced with table (computer desk?) and chair. Old desk replaced with new computer desk. New lampshade. Looks like a storage door added under sofa (maybe could not see in orig photo). New or painted counter top, new sink and faucet, a picture frame or monitor on the end of cabinet, cat with food/water dishes, right side window shade is down (not sure if new or just was up in first picture).

    Wait, I see a cat in the 2nd picture hehe
    Looks GREAT. Love the new computer desks, the new carpet, new lampshade, electronic picture frame (?) on the wall. She’s ready to rock and roll!

    Oh, and Flagstaff should be wonderfully cool. Went there last year when Phoenix was boiling and it was like driving into heaven. Apparently there are dispersed campsites in the forest (we didn’t know to look at the time). We stayed in Munds Park which is somewhat tight, but has access to lots of green forest trails. Enjoy!

      Thanks guys.. we look forward to getting this bus suited for boondocking. Right now, we don’t even have an inverter, and are borrowing some batteries 🙂 That’s probably our next big project. But it is simply lovely here in Flagstaff.

    So do you only want structural changes like floor covering, roof vent, faucet, dining/living area makeover elements (the line items of which appear many), etc? Or does any difference count like Kiki, stacking order of couch pillows and direction of PT roll on dispenser? (For those who might be lazy like me see also Easy Button.)

    Seriously, it looks great. Mods are half the fun of an RV. Usability is no doubt much improved for you. Rock on!

    Looks like the cabinet in the front left has been changed (now has a laptop), the split carpet/tile floor is now a single material; dinette is now a desk (and the cabinet in front of the dinette is gone); swapped out the fan/vent; do you now have storage under the sofa? Looks like you removed the plastic guard that was next to the stove; some sort of device/monitor is now above the stove (along the side), there seems to be something under the cabinet to the right of the sink, like a radio/mp3 player? Or else there is an appliance of some sort on the counter to the right of the sink; The faucet is different and you might have two faucets now? did you possibly swap a two bay sink for one? Not that it’s a big deal, but your paper towels are ”over” on the left, ”under” on the right; looks like you now have ports/pans and knives on the counter; the countertop material is different; the fixtures on the ceiling look different; did you not have blinds on the window on the left? The vent on the floor is gone now. The pillows are swapped positions…and that’s all I can see!!

    * Cabinets and dining table removed on left side.
    * New workstation area added (with rolling chair.
    * Added whatever that thing is that the MacBook Pro is sitting on.
    * Painted the counter tops.
    * Painted or redid the backsplash.
    * New faucet.
    * New lighting fixture over the workstation area.
    * New lamp shade (top left corner).
    * Sofa looks narrower.
    * Did the drawers exist under the sofa previously? Might have just been hidden by the overhang.
    * Double pan sink replaced with single large pan.
    * New flooring.
    * Floor A/C register removed.
    * Obviously the pots and pans in the corner weren’t there before, and whatever that is between the sink and stove.
    * Not sure what the bar is on the wall to the left of the sink…
    * Did you add the light over the sink, or was it just not there before?
    * New roof vent.
    * Cherie is wearing a different dress. 😉
    * Is the plexiglass still beside the stove? Doesn’t look like it.
    * What is that hanging on the side of the cabinets above the stove?
    * You reversed the paper towel roll.
    * And obviously you added Kiki (and her bowls).
    * I’m assuming the blinds on the right side (sofa and sink) were there before, just pulled up?

    OK, that’s what I have.

    Let’s see, between the two photos I think I’ve spotted 41 differences, 35 for sure, and 6 “maybes.” Starting on the right:

    1. Kitty vs purse
    2. Pillows reversed
    3. Couch fully retracted w/o pull-out strap showing
    4. Electronic goodie on cupboard wall (Clock + Temp unit?)
    5. Counter top changed
    6. Knick knacks on counter behind range
    7. Backsplash refinished
    8. New sink/faucet
    9. Small appliance of some sort on counter
    10. Bottle of dishwashing soap on sink
    11. Clean dishes on dishrack
    12. Light on over sink
    13. Window treatment behind sink
    14. Paper towel roll reversed
    15. No light on in bedroom
    16. Different pillow cases on bed
    17. Maxx Fan vent
    18. New flooring for living area & galley (can’t tell about BR)
    19. Missing/covered HVAC floor vent
    20. Front lamp shade
    21. Front cabinet replaced with computer work station
    22. Curio cabinet gone
    23. Dinette gone
    24. New computer workstation replacing dinette
    25. Laptop on workstation desk vs notebook on dinette table
    26. Looks like a banana next to laptop, compared to apple next to notebook
    27. Mac laptop on front computer workstation
    28. Kitty’s food & water bowls on floor under workstation
    29. New office chair
    30. Ceiling lights and/or fixtures different over rear workstation
    31. Wall painted blue under mirror
    32. Indirect lighting on street side working
    33. Chair reflected in mirror turned 90 degrees
    34. Looks like Chris is reflected in mirror trying to hide
    35. Cherie has on a different dress (most important!!)

    Due to “time of day” lighting differences, here are the “maybes”:

    1. Different window blinds in living area?
    2. Couch recovered?
    3. Window valences recovered?
    4. New window blinds behind sink?
    5. Pillows recovered/replaced?
    6. Possible light fixture change above kitty

    I know I caught the most important change (Cherie’s dress), how’d I do on the others?

      Hey Mick.. thanks for playing along! Great eye catching the switch from a double to single sink. That was difficult to pick out in the photos.

    3 things.

    1. I love Flagstaff and have a dear friend there. I’m very jealous of you right now.

    2. There are so many changes! There should be a contest. Because I want an excuse to write them all down and see if I get them all.

    3. Incredible job getting the exact same angle on these photos!
