Camp Nomadia 2009
So we had this idea.. a Burning Man Theme Camp for nomads!
A place where we take the ‘Welcome Home!’ greeting to a whole other level. A neighborhood of folks who are just passing through Burning Man as part of their normal traveling lifestyle, and not as a break from fixed life in one location.
Our vision is to camp and interact with other cool nomadic spirits, share stories, resources, share our passion for our chosen lifestyles, inspire, learn and make connections for future rendezvouses.

Interested in camping with us? Here’s the scoop…

Nomads at Nomadic Happy Hour in 2009
We hosted Camp Nomadia for the first time in 2008 as a placed theme camp and had about 25 folks with us. In 2009 we had 70 folks camped with Camp Nomadia spread across two nearby locations – one within Pandora’s Fix-it Shoppe & Lounge, and one at an Annex nearby. It was awesome.
We are intending to host Camp Nomadia in 2010 again – however this year, we have NOT applied for pre-placement. We’re nomads afterall – the best equipped folks to arrive without firm address in mind. Instead, we’ll have a strategy to find our space to convene our neighborhood of nomads.
The intentions behind Camp Nomadia are:
Community through radical self-reliance. As many nomads travel with their home set-up and are used to being self-sufficient, Camp Nomadia itself does not have any infrastructure – no showers, no kitchen, no central trash, no water, etc. We nomads generally don’t have the resources to store and transport enough for an entire camp. We believe that community can be built without relaying on each other for our basic responsibilities on the playa. Looks like we will crowdsource a central shade structure by linking several together.
No camp fees. With no infrastructure to support, this should mean we have no camp fees. I
Interactivity. We want to create a space where nomads can share their passions with each other and the playa. We intent to host workshops, and perhaps create a nomad-compatible service. Bring your ideas, and let’s create this together!
Simplicity & Drama-free. Organizing a camp shouldn’t be stressful. By bringing together folks who are used to being self-reliant and adaptable all year round, we intend to work together to create our home on the playa by minimizing the infrastructure and pre-planning. Besides, we’ll organizing this camp completely online, and many of us will meet for the first when we arrive on the playa.
If you’re interested in joining Camp Nomadia – please fill out our application on Ning to join our planning community.
Aug 27,2010 – Note about Last Minute Additions: Yes, we are still accepting new nomads! At present time we have over 80 nomads planing to camp with us. We’re going to landgrab for at least that many. If you want to join us last minute.. go ahead and sign up and we’ll do our best get you approved (we’re playa bound now, please be patient). We are however being pretty strict on only inviting in nomadic minded folks at this point (past, future and current nomads) to keep the intentions of the community (ie. we’re not open to folks who are just scrambling to find any camp to join last minute). Make sure you clearly state your calling to Camp Nomadia in your application. You MUST be completely self sufficient and be well prepared for Burning Man to camp with us – we offer no infrastructure for bringing you up to speed. No time to submit an application? You’re welcome to stop by when you arrive and see if we have room – no promises tho.
We also keep a FaceBook group for socializing and general announcements – all interested in Camp Nomadia are welcome on the Facebook group. But you must join and keep up with the Ning group to join the camp.
