Be sure to also check out our list of traveler and nomadic resources.
Here are a list of links to the virtual homes of other cool nomads we’ve run across :
Those we’ve rendezvoused on the road with so far:
Steve Roberts, The Original Technomad - Steve coined the term ‘technomad’ while he was computing across America in the 80s on his custom built bicycle. Chris met him in while in college, and credits Steve with his inspiration for constructing this sort of lifestyle. Steve is currently working on finishing Nomadness, his future sailing nomadic vessel.
Where is Ben? - Ben Willmore is a Photoshop master , artist and photography genius. He’s also a fellow technomad and friend that we rendezvous with several times a year. He gave up his house in Colorado in March 2006 and has been touring the country in a luxury tour bus, combining his passions for photography, graphic artistry and writing & teaching about Photoshop. He’s currently converting a vintage bus to be his next technomadic home. Be sure to also check out his awesome fine art.
We Go Far – Our friends Jonathan and Dasy left the rat race behind in the DC area in October 2009 and hit the road full time in an RV. They’re documenting their launch into nomadism as they go, and we greatly look forward to future rendezvouses with them now that they’re nomadic too!
NoIncomeNoKids - We met Roy & Courtney back in July 2007 on the Black Rock Desert rather serendipitously. Courtney built her own teardrop, and at the time we were traveling in the T@b (a larger manufactured teardrop). We formed ‘Camp Teardrop’. Just as we were leaving the San Francisco area in March 2009, they both got laid of from their jobs. Making the best of it, they have opted to take off for a while full timing around the country.
Amtrekker – He left his job with an Amtrek pass and a list of things he’d accomplish before he came ‘home’. We ran into Brett in Virginia City at the International Camel Races, where he checked off ‘Ride an Ostrich’.
Mine Your Resources – Cath Duncan has turned her life coaching business to be location independent to be able to follow her husband to whatever worldwide contracts and volunteer work he does. Her blog shares resources and inspiration for living an authentic life. We had a fabulous time rendezvousing with them in Colorado, and look forward to many more worldwide adventures in the future!
NuRVer – Kev and Ang are touring the country in a decadent Class-A. Kev does geeky tech work as they travel. They also run the NuRVers.comwebsite, a great community networking site for non-retiree RVers.
Digital Vagabonding – Pat has been vagabonding for nearly 20 years, and now embraces technology in his travels. He’s also done an incredible thing – he along with Matador Travel, put up a scholarship to send 4 aspiring vagabonds on the road for 3 months with a ‘Roads Scholarship’. We were delighted to host them all, and their graduation ceremony, at Burning Man 2009 at Camp Nomadia.
Kaleidoscopic Wanderings – JoAnna Haugen was one of the Roads Scholars from 2009, and keeps a blog of all of her travels and transition to living a location independent lifestyle. We met her at Burning Man when she camped with Camp Nomadia, and she’s on a fast track to convert her life to being location independent.
PictureRoute66 – Sandi Wheaton lost her videographer job at GM, and is now exploring a nomadic lifestyle. Starting with a month long photo journey along Route 66.
Mountainborn – Larry and Betty Harmon are fellow Oliver Travel Trailer owners who met via the Oliver forums. Larry recently retired from the police force, and now they’re out roaming the country in their trailer taking on workamping gigs. We finally met them in person in Kansas!
Elepent - Lexie and Emmy are two self-proclaimed weirdos in an RV. After over a year of cyber stalking each other, we finally rendezvoused in Kansas while workamping at Amazon. Much to our suspicion, these two are awesome and we look forward to our next meeting!
Our Odyssey – We’ve been blogging and twittering with Sean Welsch and Louise Hornor for many years. They live in an amazing and rare bus conversion doing Red Cross volunteering. Our paths finally crossed with these awesome like minded folks at the last planned night shuttle launch in Titusville, Florida. We enjoyed being temporary neighbors for a couple amazing days, and look forward to future rendezvouses!
NomadRIP – James Schipper can be found tweeting and commenting on blog posts of nomads and lifestyle designers – keeping tabs on us all as he plans his own nomadic life. We finally got to meet in person for the last planned night shuttle launch.
Christine – We met Christine at Strictly Sail in Miami last month. She’s been doing epic sailing and live aboard for many many years, and we had a delightful time hearing about her adventures.
Cindy’s Island – Gray & Cindy were introduced to us via a mutual acquaintance, and it just happened that they were moored nearby in Florida. We spent a delightful afternoon getting a tour of Cindy’s Island, their full time live aboard boat, and picking their brains.
Those we’ve interacted with digitally, and hope to meet in person:
Other full-time (or aspiring to be) RVing younger professional folks:

My Shrinking Life - Japhy is the pseudonym of a 30-something lawyer giving up his upper middle-class life to travel the country in an RV in pursuit of a simple, more authentic life. To accomplish this, he’s taking radical action to pay off his crushing debt, rid himself of his possessions, shed his old self, and step off the train of runaway consumerism. Some may call it “Lifestyle Design”, some “Simple Living”, but really, it’s all about finding your happiness, wherever it may take you.

He also works remotely and digitally as he travels.

In May of 2008, Zephyr decided to retire when he turned 18, however Dennis and Kimberly are still traveling full time and performing via RV.

Levity Ahead - Adolfo and Vicki are giving up their stationary life in Austin, TX and hitting the road full time in an Airstream they call the Silver Whale.
Travel Fables – Not attached to any mode of travel, Dale will don his backpack for a wilderness adventure, travel abroad or will hook up to his travel trailer and explore.
Our Take on Freedom – Jay & Amy are an adventurous and creative duo. They recently wrote to several Caribbean resorts, and managed to get hired on to teach classes in exchange for free room and board. When their job is up this summer, they’re getting an RV and heading to Burning Man (we’re hoping they’ll join us at Camp Nomadia!).
Happy Janssens – Matt, Sara, Bella and Lucy are a modern nomadic family. In 2007 they set off on the ‘Live Lightly Tour’, and are now back on the road full time. Their motorhome is powered by veggie oil, and they fund themselves by doing photography, veggie oil conversions and RV remodeling as they travel.
Appetite 4 Adventure – Johnny Biscuit bought a 17′ Casita last year (similar to our Oliver) to set out doing comedy (he blogged about it under Comedy Bailout). At the end of his year, he decided to keep going.
RamonaCreel – Ramona and Matt full time in an Airstream. Like us, they’re childfree by choice, believe in simplicity, being debt free and are under 40. Ramona is a personal organizing coach, which helps fund their travels.
Other Nomadic Types – Global/Backpacking/Sailing/Etc.

The Professional Hobo – Traveling since 2006 full time, Nora is a girl with no fixed address who funds her travels by writing.

Bumfuzzle – These two have been mentioned several times to us now that we’re blogging about our sailing aspirations. Many years ago on a lark, they bought a sailboat with no prior experience and spent 4 years circling the globe. And then they got a small VW van and toured 28 countries in Europe. Now they just had a daughter a couple months ago, and are living in Mexico.
Dramanauts – We talk about Steve, the original technomad, a lot – who is massively geeking out his own epic sailboat, Nomadness. However, he’s not alone on his journey.
