Just off the mall in Washington DC is the
National Portrait Gallery, housed with the American Art Museum, in the newly renovated former US patent office. Like all of the Smithsonian museums around DC, this one holds more amazing art and stuff to look at than you can possibly absorb in just one visit.

The highlight of the National Portrait Gallery is a collection of all of the original Presidential portraits, all the way back to George Washington. The newest addition is the Shepard Fairey collage of President Obama.

The rest of the building holds an amazing collection of American Art, from folk to modern.
