On our trip south along the Pacific Coast Highway, we stopped at a scenic overlook just south of Gaviota State Park, which is just north of Santa Barbara. Intending just a break to stretch the legs and a nice ocean view, we were treated to a path that led to an old bridge no longer in use. Chris remarked on the difference in construction of canyon overpasses of yesteryear and today.

    Back in the day, the radio comedians Bob and Ray had a public service announcement on behalf of the National Parks Service. They reminded folks not to throw things into the Grand Canyon, lest it cease to be our deepest canyon. We must remain ever-vigilant.
